In the midst of travel season, I awoke with a start at 2:00 AM. A bright red light was flashing in my room and an alarm was blaring in the most annoying way possible. Suddenly, I realized that it was the fire alarm going off and quickly grabbed some shoes, my rental car’s keys and evacuated my hotel room. There was indeed a fire in my hotel during the early hours of that October morning and I spent the better part of my coveted sleeping time sitting in one of the hotel’s many ballrooms. During those groggy three hours between two o’clock and five o’clock in the morning, I met two other women who just happened to be college admissions counselors as well. After comparing notes from “the road” and discussing our various travel territories and office responsibilities, I walked back to my now second hotel room (water damage soaked my first) with some fresh ideas about how to improve how I coordinate my respective programs here at Holy Cross. Needless to say, those three hours were not spent in vain and I was fortunate to come away with a new set of goals for doing my job better than ever before.
We in the Office of Admissions here at Holy Cross are always trying to improve what we do for our prospective students. Thus, we wholeheartedly appreciate your feedback after attending the numerous events that we host both on- and off-campus. If you were able to attend either of our Fall Open Houses during these past couple of weeks, please take a moment to fill out this survey. By taking a small amount of time out of your day to provide us with this invaluable feedback, we can ensure that our admissions programs will be new and improved for future groups of prospective students. Until that night in that hotel ballroom, I did not realize what you could learn and how I could change what I do in only a matter of minutes.

By now, if you’ve made it this far in the search process, and this deep into the Holy Cross website, you’ve “done your homework” in a manner of speaking. You’ve researched various schools and you know you like Holy Cross, but may still be wondering about a few things, and need some additional information. So, how else might you connect with us to gather those final pieces of information you need? No worries, there’s still time, and lots of ways for you to accomplish this.
Thank you to all of you who attended our Open House on Sunday, October 4, 2009. After almost three weeks of work travel, it was my first time back on campus and it was a great opportunity to meet with prospective students.
It is already October and I am sure a day off from school sounds like a good idea right about now. What could be better than skipping some classes and coming up to Holy Cross for a day and living the life of a current Crusader? You might have to make-up some AP course work upon your return but I promise you it will be worth it. Day Visits are offered to seniors in high school and take place Monday through Friday. All you have to do is call our office, share your interests, and we will take care of the rest. At Holy Cross we work hard to try and pair you up with one of our volunteers that match either your academic or extracurricular interests. We ask that prospective students arrive to Admissions at 8:30 a.m. where they meet up with their host. During the day most students will have the opportunity to attend a few classes, have a meal at Kimball, hang out in their host’s dorm, and you can even have an interview in Admissions. There is no better way to get a true feel of what life is like on Mt. Saint James.
It’s August and it seems that summer has finally arrived on Mt St. James! The upside to all the rain we have had: a very green campus! While I admit to being a bit biased, I know that our visitors will agree that the campus looks amazing. If you haven’t visited yet, or if you would like to return, we have tour guides eager to show you around, and an enthusiastic staff ready to answer your questions. So stop by and say hello.
Ever wish someone from an admissions office would tell you exactly how to go about writing your college essay? Curious about the process of interviewing at a college or university?
I just got off the phone with my seventeen year old cousin who is inevitably freaking out. If you are a rising high school senior, like he is, you have a lot to think about. Face it, next year at this time you will have graduated from your respective high school and most likely will be attending college summer orientation. This upcoming year has a lot in store for you as you begin to finalize your college list, visit campuses, interview, write your essays, and send out numerous applications. You have a lot of goals that need to be set and prioritizing that has to be done. Trust me, if you work hard, everything will get done.
