The author provided lots of three-word sayings to live by, such as\u00a0floss every day, keep your word, bring her flowers, etc.<\/p>\n<p>This got me to thinking about the college application process. Students are given so much advice but,\u00a0do they remember any of it? Does any of it resonate? Would it help if the advice was doled out in\u00a0shorter, easier-to-digest packets?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it would.<\/p>\n<p>So, here is my top ten pieces of three-word advice on the Common Application essay:<\/p>\n<p>1. Love your topic<\/p>\n<p>2. Write with joy<\/p>\n<p>3. Trust your voice<\/p>\n<p>4. Consider your audience<\/p>\n<p>5. Develop a hook<\/p>\n<p>6. Use paragraph breaks<\/p>\n<p>7. Check your punctuation<\/p>\n<p>8. Avoid the thesaurus<\/p>\n<p>9. Submit on time<\/p>\n<p>10. Thank your proofreaders<\/p>\n<p>Want more essay advice?
