\nAs a recent graduate of Holy Cross and one of the newest admissions counselors, can I really admit that Holy Cross was not at the top of
\nmy college visit list? <\/span>I guess it\u2019s safe
\nto say I can. <\/span>The truth is I had never
\neven heard of Holy Cross until October of my senior year of high school. <\/span>It had popped up on one of my online Princeton Review<\/em> searches as a college I
\nwould most likely love — but I honestly didn\u2019t take a second look. <\/span>Why? <\/span>The
\nname scared me. <\/span>I was worried Holy Cross
\nwould turn me into a nun. <\/span>That\u2019s just
\nthe plain, candid truth. <\/span>But as the fall
\napproached I started to panic. <\/span>I had
\nvisited twelve schools and none of them had \u201cclicked\u201d with me. <\/span><\/p>\n

I felt like I was never going to find a college I absolutely
\nloved. <\/span>After all I had attended tours
\nand info sessions at colleges in North
\nCarolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania,\u00a0Connecticut, Colorado, Arizona and California. <\/span>My parents were patient throughout the whole
\nprocess but I could tell they were at the end of their rope with planning
\ncollege visit trips disguised as family vacations. <\/span>Since I felt like I was out of options I
\ndecided to send away for information from Holy Cross. <\/span>One Saturday night at 12 a.m. (Junior Driver\u2019s License typical curfew
\ntime) I returned from my friend\u2019s house to find the Holy Cross \u201cWhat Am I Doing
\nHere?\u201d booklet on my bed. <\/span>I opened it up
\nand started to read\u2026.and read. <\/span>I was
\nintrigued. <\/span>So intrigued I jumped out of
\nbed, ran downstairs and woke my parents up.
\n<\/span>I remember sitting on their bed telling them that Holy Cross was where I
\nwanted to go and where I was meant to be.
\n<\/span>Since I had said this twelve other times, they were rightfully skeptical. <\/span>The next day we scheduled my November Day Visit
\nto campus.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons November is my favorite month at Holy
\nCross is because it is the month I fell in love with my Alma Mater and the
\nmonth I realized that there was still time for me to apply. <\/span>The moment I stepped onto campus that crisp
\nNovember day in 2003 I knew I had found my school. <\/span>I got the feeling I had been searching for
\nall along. <\/span>Simply put, there is just something
\nabout Holy Cross in the fall. <\/span>As a
\nprospective student I had not yet fallen in love with autumn at Holy Cross
\nbecause of Halloween on campus, Thanksgiving Dinner at Kimball, or apple picking
\ntrips to orchards planned through Student Programs. <\/span>Those things indeed came later and only
\naffirmed my love for this special season on the hill. <\/span>At first I simply fell in love with the students,
\nthe architecture, and of course the changing leaves with their crisp browns and
\nrich maroons. <\/span>Finally, I had found the
\nplace I knew I belonged and I never looked back. <\/span><\/p>\n

So as a high school senior reaching the month of November I
\nurge you to take a deep breathe and realize that there is still time for you to
\ndiscover Holy Cross\u2026.and what if you already have? <\/span>I hope the feeling I just described resonates
\nwithin each one of you.<\/p>\n
