The latin phrase <\/span>virtute et numine<\/span><\/i> is the inspiration for the phrase “by grit and grace.”\u00a0 I am reminded of that sentiment because a few weeks ago, we passed the six month mark – 180 days since my co-workers and I left the Office of Admission and started working remotely and Holy Cross students left campus and started remote learning.\u00a0 On an almost daily basis, we are challenged in ways that we never expected and for which we could not prepare. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over these six months, in conversations over Zoom with high school students, we in the Admission Office have been hearing stories of canceled standardized test dates, the challenges of remote, hybrid and in-person learning and all of the resulting stress and anxiety that has been added to the college application process.\u00a0 We are simultaneously inspired by these students\u2019 stories of perseverance and saddened by the heightened anxiety that they are experiencing.\u00a0 In response, we have created the following website<\/a> and video<\/a> to help address the most common questions and concerns about applying to college during this unforeseen pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will get through the next six months the same way we got through the last six months – by demonstrating compassion for each other, and, most of all, by grit and grace.<\/span><\/p>\n
