{"id":32,"date":"2008-10-07T05:45:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-07T09:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admissions.me.holycross.edu\/2008\/10\/07\/open-house-reflections-%e2%80%93-don%e2%80%99t-be-afraid-to-ask-questions\/"},"modified":"2008-10-07T05:45:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-07T09:45:00","slug":"open-house-reflections-dont-be-afraid-to-ask-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/admissions\/2008\/10\/07\/open-house-reflections-dont-be-afraid-to-ask-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"Open House Reflections \u2013 Don\u2019t Be Afraid To Ask Questions!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;float: left\" src=\"http:\/\/me.holycross.edu\/blogimages\/julia_2.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Julia_2\" \/><br \/>\nThanks to all of you who came out to Open House on Sunday, October 5th.<br \/>\nIt was so nice to see all of your smiling faces (sometimes for the second or third time!)\u00a0 And, for those of you who missed it &#8211; fear not!\u00a0 We\u2019re holding a second one on November 16th,\u00a0 from 9:30 AM \u2013 1:30 PM.\u00a0 You can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holycross.edu\/admissions\/openhouse\/\">register in advance online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Open House is our \u201cone stop shop\u201d for experiencing life at Holy Cross.\u00a0 You and your family can take a campus tour;\u00a0 sit in on faculty, student, and admissions panels;\u00a0 talk to representatives from various clubs, organizations, and athletic teams;\u00a0 and most importantly,\u00a0 sample the food!<\/p>\n<p>And now for some reflection and advice:<\/p>\n<p>While I spoke to many wonderful students and parents with many wonderful questions, at times it felt like I wasn\u2019t getting enough questions. I left Open House wondering if I somehow came across as more intimidating than I had previously considered. I mean, I suppose the hefty 6\u20194 stature, guns of steel, and world champion logger status could throw you,\u00a0 but I\u2019m actually quite warm and smiley when you get to know me. I kid, I kid (I\u2019m actually rather lanky and clumsy), but I kid to drive home my point:\u00a0 \u00a0Colleges host Open Houses and other similar programs specifically to give you the opportunity to get your questions answered. We know that trying to decide on where to apply to college can be a very overwhelming and stressful process. And the guidebooks, independent counselors, school counselors, and best friend\u2019s sister\u2019s of the world only know so much.\u00a0 So be smart consumers, and take advantage of the people in the know.\u00a0 We are here to help.
