{"id":555,"date":"2010-04-09T12:22:11","date_gmt":"2010-04-09T16:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admissions.me.holycross.edu\/?p=555"},"modified":"2010-04-09T12:22:11","modified_gmt":"2010-04-09T16:22:11","slug":"the-perfect-burrito","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/admissions\/2010\/04\/09\/the-perfect-burrito\/","title":{"rendered":"The Perfect Burrito"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-345\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/admissions\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2009\/09\/6a00e54ed0db8e8833010536f8f30b970b-800wi.jpg\" alt=\"6a00e54ed0db8e8833010536f8f30b970b-800wi\" width=\"104\" height=\"155\" \/>Recently, I was at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.menuism.com\/links\/show\/aNs1SAj9ar3B0Raby-t3N_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tortilla Sam\u2019s<\/a> (Worcester\u2019s finest establishment for Mexican food) and I began thinking about the perfect burrito.\u00a0 What makes a burrito the perfect burrito?\u00a0 Is it the ratio of rice to beans?\u00a0 Is it the freshness of the salsa?\u00a0 Or perhaps it\u2019s the texture of the tortilla?<\/p>\n<p>The more I thought about it, the more I realized that a burrito is comprised of so many components, so many complementary parts, that it\u2019s impossible to identify which one plays the largest role.\u00a0 Put differently, you don\u2019t know what makes a burrito the perfect burrito until you taste it and even then you\u2019re unlikely to know why it\u2019s perfect \u2013 more likely, it\u2019s the precise combination of all the assembled parts.\u00a0 In addition, perhaps we all have our own unique tastes which dictate what will make a burrito perfect for each and every one of us.\u00a0 The perfect burrito for one person might be far too spicy for someone else.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the days tick by on April\u2019s calendar and we move closer to the May 1<sup>st<\/sup> deadline when all admitted students must decide at which college to set up their futons and mini-fridges next year, let\u2019s remember the lesson of the burrito.\u00a0 Colleges are complex and complicated homes for living and learning and they can\u2019t be summed up in a sound bite nor summarized in a Facebook posting.\u00a0 The best way to identify the perfect college is to think for yourself and know that when it happens, you won\u2019t know why \u2013 you\u2019ll just know that you\u2019ve found the perfect college for you.\u00a0 In the meantime, keep an open mind and keep the salsa off your shirt.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Andrew N.
