{"id":71,"date":"2007-10-31T23:03:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-01T03:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admissions.me.holycross.edu\/2007\/10\/31\/what-factors-make-you-like-a-city\/"},"modified":"2007-10-31T23:03:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-01T03:03:00","slug":"what-factors-make-you-like-a-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/admissions\/2007\/10\/31\/what-factors-make-you-like-a-city\/","title":{"rendered":"What factors make you like a city?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;float: left\" src=\"http:\/\/me.holycross.edu\/blogimages\/drew.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Drew\" \/>While driving back from Buffalo last week, I reflected on how much I liked Buffalo.\u00a0 That got me to thinking . . .<\/p>\n<p>What specifically was it about Buffalo that made me enjoy my visits every fall?<\/p>\n<p>And what are the factors that contribute to whether or not we \u201clike\u201d a city?<\/p>\n<p>The answer, I believe, is highly personal.\u00a0 For me, in any city, I always end up looking for tacos, trails and tea.\u00a0 \u00a0Here at home . . .<\/p>\n<p>1. For tea, coffee and breakfast sandwiches that will change your life, I go to Culpepper\u2019s Bakery.\u00a0 It\u2019s walking distance from Holy Cross.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had and loved everything on the menu but the Hammy (egg, ham and cheese on a sesame bagel) will change your life.<\/p>\n<p>2. For trails, I go to Wachusett Mountain State Reservation (20 minutes from HC) which, during the warmer months, offers 3,000 acres worth of scenic hiking: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/dcr\/parks\/central\/wach.htm\">http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/dcr\/parks\/central\/wach.htm<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0In the winter, it is one of the premier skiing destinations in New England: <a href=\"http:\/\/wawa.wachusett.com\/mountain_info\/default.cfm\">http:\/\/wawa.wachusett.com\/mountain_info\/default.cfm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>3. And as for tacos and burritos, the choice is easy: Tortilla Sam\u2019s (5 minutes from HC) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tortillasams.com\/menus\/cantina.html\">http:\/\/www.tortillasams.com\/menus\/cantina.html<\/a>.\u00a0 All of their sauces, salsas and marinades are homemade and you can watch them make their tortillas fresh every day in the front window.\u00a0 When you\u2019re there, don\u2019t miss the boneless buffalo wings and the spicy spuds.<\/p>\n<p>So as you make some of your final college visits, take some time to look off campus for the things that you might find yourself looking for during your four years of college and if you find yourself in Worcester, don\u2019t miss the tacos, trails and tea.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew N Carter<br \/>\nAssociate Director of Admissions<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While driving back from Buffalo last week, I reflected on how much I liked Buffalo.\u00a0 That got me to thinking . . .
