Gerald Cantor Gallery,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/priorperformingartscenter.holycross.edu\/art-notes\/\"><em>Art<\/em><i>\u00a0Notes<\/i><\/a> is a journal that features\u00a01,000-word pieces on arts events at Holy Cross and in the region, the core of which are produced by a cohort of\u00a0<strong>Arts Writing Fellows\u00a0<\/strong>representing the academic arts units of Creative Writing, Music, Theatre &amp; Dance, and Visual Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Note: while\u00a0<strong>Fellows must be arts majors or minors<\/strong>\u00a0(or, in the case of Creative Writing, minors or concentrators),\u00a0<strong>students from all majors are welcome and encouraged to\u00a0<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/10oqxLchET3RPPxDtLJIm0cB8jadVSdqmxOmrRkHu0ms\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submit to the journal<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Fellows will receive mentoring and editorial feedback during the writing and editing process from Kyle Frisina (English Faculty) and Lauren Szumita (Director of the Cantor Art Gallery), as well as opportunities for professional development and external networking. Their contributions to the journal will enrich the conversation around arts programming at and beyond Holy Cross and strengthen the commitment to the arts within the Holy Cross community.<\/p>\n<h3>Fellows receive:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>$500 stipend ($250 per semester)<\/li>\n<li>Opportunity to publish several pieces in the journal<\/li>\n<li>Editorial feedback and mentoring<\/li>\n<li>At least one (1) professional development opportunity per semester (e.g, meeting with professional arts writers and editors)<\/li>\n<li>Exposure to current conversations in contemporary art criticism and to other professional, writing-based opportunities in the arts<\/li>\n<li>Writing assignment rubrics that cover the critical exercise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Fellowship expectations:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A one-year commitment to the Fellowship<\/li>\n<li>Research, write, and revise three to four (3-4) 1,000-word pieces of critical reflection per semester<\/li>\n<li>Serve as members of the\u00a0<i>Art Notes<\/i>\u00a0Editorial Board led by its co-editors; attend approximately two (2) meetings per semester to review and recommend journal submissions<\/li>\n<li>Attendance at professional development events, typically two (2) per year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Fellowship qualifications:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Current sophomore, junior, or senior<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Strong writing skills<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Eagerness to deepen understanding of arts journalism and writing craft<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Close attention to detail<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Timely and professional communication over email and in person<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Cross-disciplinary enthusiasm for the arts<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Ability to attend at least 4 arts events per semester<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Ability to attend occasional professional development events with Fellowship cohort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>More about the writing and editing process<\/h3>\n<p><i>Art Notes<\/i>\u00a0aims to cover a broad range of performing arts, creative writing, and visual arts on campus and in the region. Fellows will propose event coverage and\/or other arts topics (interviews, think pieces, process documentation, etc) to editors and, with their guidance, map out a diverse slate of assignments each semester. Each published piece will receive up to two rounds of editing.
