1. In one sentence, what does your job entail?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

In my role in the Dean of Students Office, I advocate for and support students and ensure they are connected to appropriate campus resources.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2. What planned and unplanned events connected you to your industry and your first employer after Holy Cross? How did you learn\/decide it was a good fit for you?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

My roles as a peer educator and resident assistant were my first experiences working in higher education.\u00a0 Several of the Student Affairs professionals who I worked with in those roles helped me explore higher education as a potential career.\u00a0 Because my first professional role was at Holy Cross, those relationships led very directly to my career path.<\/p>\n

3. What were you involved in when you were on campus?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Resident Assistant; SRC; Treasurer of Holy Cross Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta; College Choir; Chamber Singers; Schola Cantorum; German Club<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

4. What was your major and how did it affect your career decisions?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was a double major in English and German.\u00a0 At Holy Cross, you are always told that with a liberal arts education you can pursue any career.\u00a0 I absolutely agree!\u00a0 The critical thinking and communication skills that were such a big part of both of my majors have helped me navigate the many complex\u2014and often unexpected\u2014situations that arise on campus.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

5. What are one or two skills that you developed at Holy Cross that you use in your work?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though I no longer work at a Catholic institution, the Jesuit\u2019s focus on educating the whole person continues to inform my work in important ways.\u00a0 By focusing on a student\u2019s whole experience\u2014and not just the specific concern they have when they walk into my office\u2014I\u2019m better able to provide them the support they need to be successful.<\/p>\n

6. What advice do you have for students on campus today?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keep an open mind.\u00a0 Whether you are applying for a job or picking your courses for next semester, don\u2019t worry about always having the perfect \u201cfit.\u201d\u00a0 Trying a new path might lead to a new passion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
