Eclipse Party

Eclipse Party, April 8, 2024, 2:30-4 pm, Jo Patio with image of sun, moon and earth.

Witness the wonder of the partial solar eclipse viewable on the Hill! Join us on the Jo patio starting at 2:30 pm when the College Archives and Distinctive Collections will present the rich history of astronomy at our college. Learn about the fascinating contributions of Jesuit astronomers and our institution’s historical involvement in the study of the cosmos.

At 3 pm, Dr. Narita from the Physics Department will provide an overview of the earth-moon-sun alignment, as well as discuss the parts of the sun that are visible. Professor Narita’s talk will lead us into the height of the solar display, around 3:30 pm.

We will provide attendees with eclipse viewing glasses for a safe, firsthand experience of this rare phenomenon. We will also provide delicious moon-themed snacks. Drop-in anytime to experience the fun!

In the event of rain, we’ll relocate indoors to the Levis Browsing Room in Dinand Library, where the same presentations will be held, alongside a live stream of the eclipse provided by NASA.
