Servus aus Bamberg, Deutschland!\u00a0 <\/span><\/i>Hello from Bamberg, Germany! \"\"\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

My name is Nate Jablonski. I\u2019m a dual major and junior at the College of the Holy Cross, studying International Relations and German. Currently, I am studying abroad for the year in the beautiful city of <\/span>Bamberg, Germany<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 I can\u2019t wait to share my experiences with you!<\/span><\/p>\n

For 11 centuries, Bamberg has played an important historical, cultural, and artistic role in southern Germany, as well as neighboring countries. During the Holy Roman Empire, Henry II, King of Germany, established Bamberg as a bishopric in 1007 (<\/span>UNESCO, Brief synthesis<\/span><\/a>), hoping to create a \u201csecond Rome\u201d (<\/span>UNESCO, Brief synthesis<\/span><\/a>), since Bamberg was also built upon 7 hills. Thanks to Bamberg\u2019s location and religious importance, it began to influence surrounding German and Hungarian cities (<\/span>UNESCO, Brief synthesis<\/span><\/a>). However, the city\u2019s location also helped save it from destruction during WWII. As a result, Bamberg\u2019s historical city center has remained relatively unchanged since its founding in 1007, allowing it to serve as a wonderful example of a medieval European city (<\/span>UNESCO, Criterion (iv)<\/span><\/a>). Due to its historical importance, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) decided to make Bamberg a <\/span>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/span><\/a> in 1993.<\/span><\/p>\n
