Follow along as I share some of what I have captured while walking through this incredible town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St Salvator&#8217;s Chapel<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_45\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-45 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/owenwhaley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2023\/02\/IMG-7626-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"St Salvator's Chapel\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-45\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Salvator&#8217;s Chapel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Founded in 1450, St Salvator&#8217;s Chapel is a center of spiritual life at the University, with its breathtaking Gothic architecture and warm atmosphere. Whether attending a service or simply stopping in to reflect, the chapel never fails to leave a lasting impression.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Market Street<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_46\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46\" style=\"width: 1780px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-46 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/owenwhaley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2023\/02\/IMG-7482-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"The far end of Market Street\" width=\"1780\" height=\"2560\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-46\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The far end of Market Street<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I captured this picture while walking along Market Street on my way to a class in the Mediaeval History building. This is how a lot of the streets look on campus: peaceful, colorful, and invariably steeped in history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tesco (and the newsstands)<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_55\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-55 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/owenwhaley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2023\/02\/IMG-5803-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"A newsstand at Tesco\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-55\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There&#8217;s nothing quite like the British tabloids<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tesco is a staple of British life \u2014 and so are the tabloids. They never fail to grab my attention. As an outsider looking in, it is always interesting to catch a glimpse at how this great country consumes its news. I saw this memorial honoring the Queen&#8217;s seventy-year reign while walking past one of the churches in St Andrews.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St Andrews Castle<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-47 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/owenwhaley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2023\/02\/IMG-7478-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"St Andrews Castle\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Andrews Castle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Last week, I explored the ruins of St Andrews Castle. Built around 1200, the castle served as a residence of St Andrews&#8217; bishops and as the site of numerous battles and sieges throughout the medieval period. It was fascinating to walk through what remains of a castle that played such an important role in Scottish political and religious history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Beaches<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-49 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/owenwhaley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2023\/02\/IMG-7079-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"A beach at St Andrews\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-48 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/owenwhaley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2023\/02\/IMG-7091-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"A beach at St Andrews\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>St Andrews&#8217; beaches make it one of the most breathtaking places to study in the world. I have made so many great memories down on the sands. As my dorm overlooks the beach pictured above, it&#8217;s always nice to crack my windows open and hear the sound of the waves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Old Course<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.holycross.edu\/owenwhaley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/45\/2023\/02\/IMG-6964-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"The Old Course\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Old Course<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>St Andrews is renowned as the home of golf. Established in 1552, the Old Course is the oldest and most iconic golf course in the world.
