Brendan Sullivan ’86 took the time to answer some questions regarding his experiences on the hill and career upon graduation. Brendan was first introduced to Holy Cross by his grandfather, Bill Brennan ’30, and uncle, Jeff Brennan ’60, who both attended Holy Cross as student-athletes. Brendan really wanted to attend an institution with a strong academic reputation and was looking for a college that stood out upon other colleges and universities. His trip to campus, hosted by the football team, solidified his decision to attend Holy Cross due to the experience that he had upon his visit.
“I think studying history and just the entire experience at HC helped me become a much better communicator and gave me insight on what joining the business world would require to be successful”
Brendan was a history major at Holy Cross and balanced his rigorous academic schedule with playing football. He reflected on how incredibly fortunate he was to have made so many valuable connections and relationships with people at Holy Cross that ultimately played a key role towards his success in business. He believes that the liberal arts education he received provided him with essential communication skills and knowledge that would ultimately help him in his professional career. When asked about advice that he would give to Holy Cross students pursuing a career in business, he highlighted the importance of networking; and really casting as big of a net as possible to learn more about specific careers and companies that might appeal to certain individuals.
“The Holy Cross network has been a consistent benefit for my entire career.”
Brendan started off his professional career in the textile manufacturing industry, but soon learned that he wanted to pursue a career in technology sales. He highlights the importance of networking and having that strong Holy Cross connection with alumni that helped kickstart this transition. Additionally, the educational foundation he received at Holy Cross supported this career switch. Holy Cross is also where he made the most important connection in his life; he and Karen ’87 met at HC and celebrated their wedding at St. Joseph’s Memorial Chapel a few years after they graduated. Currently, Brendan is a Client Director at ServiceNow, which he prides as an incredible company that he feels fortunate to be a part of.
