From Conference Connection to TJX Internship: Sheila Purcell ’28’s Journey

Sheila Purcell ’28, a Psychology major with a minor in Business Ethics, began her path to a TJX internship after attending the annual Holy Cross Women in Business Conference.

Hosted by the Ciocca Center, the conference promotes women’s leadership in business and brings together students, alumni, and professionals from a variety of industries. For Sheila, the event introduced new career possibilities and provided the opportunity to connect with Holy Cross alumni working in the field.

During last year’s conference, Sheila attended a panel featuring recruiters and alumni from TJX. Inspired by what she learned, she followed up with one of the speakers she met soon afterward. Knowing how competitive the internship program was, she applied early and secured an interview.

By reaching out to her new connection, Sheila gained valuable insight and guidance throughout the application process. These conversations gave her a deeper understanding of the role, and the alum’s support ultimately helped her secure the position.

Today, Sheila is serving as a Merchandising Intern with TJX in Framingham. She credits the Women in Business Conference and the Ciocca Center for helping her get started. What began as a single conference panel led to meaningful connections, valuable mentorship, and ultimately an internship opportunity.
